About Region 13 Nueces Regional Flood Planning Group
The Nueces Flood Planning Region extends from the Edwards Plateau of Central Texas to the Gulf Coast. The Nueces River originates in Edwards and Real Counties and is joined by major tributaries including the Sabinal, Atascosa, Leona, and Frio Rivers as it flows southeast toward Nueces and Corpus Christi Bays.
South of Corpus Christi, the region also encompasses a significant portion of the Nueces-Rio Grande Coastal Basin, including Corpus Christi Bay, the Corpus Christi Ship Channel, Oso Bay, and Baffin Bay. The region contains two major reservoirs, Choke Canyon Reservoir and Lake Corpus Christi, and spans five Texas ecoregions identified by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, with much of the area located within the South Texas Plains ecoregion.
